Mark R. Thibert, M.D., CD, MDS, F.R.C.S.(C), FACS
Neebing, Ontario

Dr. Thibert has been a resident of Neebing Ontario since 2014. He has served as Municipal Councilor for Blake Ward for the past 4-year term of office. On council Thibert has been a dedicated and devoted public servant, and prides himself on being Neebing’s first representative on Diversity Thunder Bay where he is the co-chair of the Education Committee and a member of the organization’s executive. Dr. Thibert is a hard-working, loyal resident of Neebing who lives by the motto: “Neebing First”.

Dr. Thibert is a Plastic Surgeon practicing in Thunder Bay, ON and Associate Professor at NOSM. He received his BSc , MS, and specialist training in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Hand and Microsurgery from The University of Western Ontario, and Plastic Surgery from William Beaumont Hospital. Dr. Thibert received Master’s degrees in Defence Studies (Royal Military College of Canada), and Medical Leadership (York University).

Dr. Thibert has served as a full-time staff member at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for 30 years, where he served for over 14 years as Chief of Surgery and President of the Professional Staff Association. Dr. Thibert introduced modern clinical practice to Thunder Bay in the areas of Hand Surgery, Microsurgery, internal fixation for maxillofacial trauma, suction assisted lipectomy, and postmastectomy reconstruction.

Dr. Thibert was on Faculty at McMaster University, teaching Family practice Residents in their Thunder Bay program, after which he has been on faculty at NOSM, teaching medical learners at all levels, and having supervised undergraduate and graduate (Masters and PhD) student research projects. He is a member of several NOSM committees.

Dr. Thibert was Commanding Officer of the 18th Field Ambulance, Brigade Surgeon 38CBG, Canadian Vice President for the Inter-Allied Association of Reserve Medical Officers (CIOMR), and Chairman of the CIOMR Scientific Committee, Plastic Surgery Advisor to the Surgeon General, Reserve Medical Officer Practice Leader, and member of the NATO Medical Commission. For five years, Lieutenant-Colonel Thibert was the Medical Commander of the Nijmegen Marches in Holland. In 2008 Lieutenant-Colonel Thibert was deployed to Afghanistan with the Canadian Armed Forces as the first Canadian military Plastic Surgeon to have served in battle since WW II. Lieutenant-Colonel Thibert was awarded the ISAF Service Star, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal of Honour, and the 1 Health Services Commander’s Coin. Through the Canadian Armed Forces Lieutenant-Colonel Thibert earned, and still retains certifications in Financial Management, Laws of Armed Conflict, Hazardous Materials Management, Operational Planning, and Strategic Planning.
